Oak Harbor
Located at the top of our Island, Oak Harbor is home to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. The commercial and residential areas have developed making Oak Harbor the largest city on the island. A popular stop is the Deception Pass Bridge and State Park, the bridge being the only way to drive off of the island (ferries leave the Island from Coupeville and Clinton). The park provides hiking and horse trails, boating, and camping. Enjoy Holland Happening in April and Race Week in July. The city also features a full Marina with both permanent and guest slips. On the west side of the city, you'll find the 112 acre Joseph Whidbey State Park with fabulous views of the San Juan Islands, the Strait, and Vancouver Island.
Coupeville
Moving south from Oak Harbor, discover the Island County seat of Coupeville. Known as the second oldest town in the state of Washington, historic Coupeville is located on the shores of Penn Cove, known for its mussel production. The downtown features the Island County Historical Society, the Arts Center, and a wharf with visitor and overnight moorage. Antique stores and quaint shops line the main street. Coupeville resides in Ebey's Landing National Historic Preserve, dedicated to the enhancement and preservation of historic lands and buildings. Take time to walk the trails at Fort Ebey and Kettles Park. There are several festivals and special events held throughout the year. Passing to the west through acres of farmland to the water, you'll find the Keystone Ferry and a half-hour ferry trip over to Port Townsend.
Greenbank
11 miles south of Coupeville is the small town of Greenbank, known best for the Greenbank Farm, a 520-acre public site and formerly the largest Loganberry farm in the United States and Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens, a beautiful 53-acre woodland preserve and display/educational garden. The annual Loganberry Festival is held at the Greenbank Farm. To the west of town, discover the Hancock Nature Reserve, a saltwater estuary with protected birds and animal species.
Freeland
The town of Freeland is the commercial hub of the south Island. The Holmes Harbor community is centered around the Holmes Harbor Golf and Beach Club, with a public golf course and waterside restaurant. To the west is the South Whidbey State Park, a 347-acre year-round camping park with hiking trails, fishing, swimming, clamming & crabbing. Double Bluff beach has a off-leash dog park and wonderful views of the Sound, Seattle, and Mt. Rainier. Boating is a favorite activity in the harbor on the east side of the town, launching from Freeland Park's boat launch.
Langley
Downtown in the Seaside Village of Langley is a thriving artist's community with art galleries, antique stores, quaint shops, and a diversified choice of restaurants. From the downtown Seawall Park, eagles, herons, whales and sea lions are often seen. WICA, the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts hosts a wide variety of plays, concerts, and other performances throughout the year. The renowned Mystery Weekend is held on the last weekend in February and draws locals as well as off-islanders to solve the "crime" and win prizes. Langley is host to Choochokam in July, an outdoor art festival with artists and craftspeople promoting their wares. In August, the Island County Fair comes to town. Events include a parade through town, rodeo contests, 4-H programs, well-known entertainers, and displays like you'd find in the finest county fairs. Out and away from the "hub-bub" of the city is the Metcalf Trust trail system, an extensive group of trails for hikers, horseback riders, and mountain bikers (no motorized vehicles). Heading back toward the main highway, you'll find the Bayview Cash Store renovated by Goosefoot Community Fund using as much recycled and reused materials as possible to recreate the look of the old storefront.
Clinton
At the very southern end of the island, Clinton is the gateway back to the mainland via the half-hourly ferry to Mukilteo. There's Island Greens, a par 3 golf course set in a beautiful area of evergreens and rhododendrons. Fishing is allowed from the pier and the Possession Beach Park provides a boat launch.
